The Village Greengrocers Greengrocer & Local Produce — Charlton Village

If Charlton Village has a heart, The Village Greengrocers might just be it. A riot of colour in the centre of the high street, this award-winning independent is the kind of shop that reminds you what local shopping can and should feel like.

Founded in 2017 by Bardan Pradhan, the shop stocks fresh, mainly organic fruit and vegetables sourced from London and the South East — eggs from Surrey, fruit from Kent, wine and bread from Greenwich businesses — alongside herbs, spices, cheeses and household refills like liquid soap. It’s a proper one-stop shop for anyone trying to eat well and shop locally.

But it’s much more than a greengrocer. The Village Greengrocers stocks cards by local artists, uses wooden display crates handmade from recycled wood by Greenwich Mencap’s Riverwood Shop, and offers home deliveries to the local area. It is, as Pradhan puts it, “an anchor business in the community” — one that supports the small, local economy at every turn.

The wider community has noticed. The shop has won the Best of Royal Greenwich High Street Retailer of the Year award twice — in 2020 and again in 2024 — recognising its outstanding contribution to the borough.

Whether you’re popping in for a bag of veg or browsing for something a little more special, The Village Greengrocers is one of Charlton’s finest reasons to shop local.
